Leaking Pressure valve on water heater

2011-05-18

Ive got a Rheem Heatpump thats about 2 years old

it was part of the safety recall to do with the pump that was done about
a week ago, since then im finding the the pressure valve to be leaking
about 40L of water a day

ive called rheem about the problem and they said they wont replace the check valve if there isnt a pressure reducing valve fitted

are they just trying to push the buck or is there some truth to it

also whats the price for a new valve and can you buy them at bunnings。
They can cost between $80 < $120 and you would be better of going to a
plumbing supplies store for them. If your pressure is above 500kPa and
you don't have a PLV fitted, they are right to refuse replacing the
valve. Same goes with most things connected to mains water these days.
In ACT local pressure can be up to 1400kPa although not often (I had
1200kPa at a former house) and commonly 800-900 or so! So it makes sense
all round to pit a PLV on the input side then see what the relief valve
is doing.
